SPRING REGISTRATION OPENS MARCH 20TH
SPRING REGISTRATION OPENS MARCH 20TH
We are so lucky to have Coach John as part of our team at Shipyards Boxing. John is no stranger to the boxing world having competed in amateur boxing as a teen in Cape Breton.
John has served in the military for 24 years and his service record is a roadmap of places where Canadian service men and women have made a real difference over the past two decades. Bosnia in 1998. Kosovo in 1999. Ethiopia and Eritrea in 2000. Afghanistan in 2007 and 2010.
After 24 years in the military, John suffered a broken ankle during a paratrooper exercise, a broken elbow during physical training and a serious neck injury from an ambush in Afghanistan. Like many military service men and women, John not only endured physical injuries but like many service men and women, emotional injuries as well. In 2014, John was diagnosed with PTSD . He has been very outspoken about his diagnosis hoping to help others in their battle with PTSD as well.
John turned to fitness and training to help him deal with the symptoms of PTSD and luckily, he showed up at Shipyards Boxing and has become a great addition to our team! John was chosen to represent Team Canada at the Warrior Games in Tampa Bay , Florida this year. He is an excellent example of what can be accomplished both physically and mentally through fitness, training and the sport of boxing.
